Randa Shahin [Featured Rider]

Randa Shahin is a solid rider from the Mt Hood region who is riding for Ride snowboards, Betty Rides, EVO Gear, POW gloves, Spacecraft, Shredbetties.com, and Von Zipper. She's an all around rider who enjoys all aspects of snowboarding from park to pow, but you'll see here killing it on rails the most. For example, she took 1st at the PB&J at snoqulmie, 1st at the Campus rail jam tour at OSU, 2nd at Vegetate rail jam at Meadows.

Mt. Hood has played a huge role in Randa Shanin's life. She moved to Portland in 2002 from Dallas, Pennsylvania. Big Boulder was her home resort in the Pocono “Mountains” The resort has done a lot of developing since I last left, but the potential wasn't quite there. You can only enjoy riding the ice and the short runs so much. Some runs were so short you could see the bottom of the run from the top, but that was home. In the end it was the short seasons that motivated her to move out west. A dear friend of Randa's suggested that they all move to Mt. Hood to take advantage of the year round snowboarding., and that is exactly what she did. Randa transferred from Penn State to Portland State, where she finished a degree in Mathematics while entering the next phase of her life: being a snowboard bum.

Randa arrived unsponsored at Hood, but moved to Oregon purely to pursue snowboarding for herself. Randa loved to ride, and simply wanted to get better for her own self satisfaction. If something better became of it, then great. If not, then it wasn't a big deal for her, at least she was still living the life doing what she loved to do. She had no expectations, just passion. After finishing college, Randa gave snowboarding her all.

Randa since has fallen in love with Mt Hood and Portland. Where else can you go snowboard, skate, and surf in the same day? One thing she admires most about the Northwest is that we measure our snow in feet while Colorado and many other places measure their snow in inches.

Randa plans to keep on tearing it up around mt Hood, along with travling when she can. She's been featured in A couple of ads in snowboarder magazine, transworld, and drift. She also has had a feature in Ski Press Canada magazine, along with some clips in a film by Pitstop productions.
