Trent Brashier and I have ran into each other a fair bit. First it was at USASA events at Meadows in 08, where I spent the next three events only beating him once, with him taking first in the region in the open class. Next it was at nationals at copper mountain that same season, where we both were competing to take national placings. I ran into Trent again this year and he was up to the same thing: Killing it on a snowboard, and taking first in slope style like it was his business. Destroying it in contests on a local and national level isn't all Trent is up to. Just this past week Trent was up at Mission Ridge in Washington demoing all of next years products for Hilcrest. Trent works at Hilcrest and is also working to head up a snowboard team for the store.
Trent's hardly new to this, especially being a Transplant from the Mid West. For all the powder days the Midwest lacks it makes up for it by creating freestyle machines that know how to put it down on bullet proof landings, such as Trent. Trent infact has been competing for 7 years and five years in the USASA on the National level. In 2004 he took 19th in the mens jams class for slopestyle, In 2005 he took 13th place in the jams class for slopestyle, and In 2008 he took 44th place in slope and 35th place in boardercross in the mens open class. Keep in mind these placings are national rankings in the most widespread competition circuits in the nation. Also keep in mind that Open Class is where a lot of Pros like Scotty Lago are being directly pulled from.
Trent rides for Hillcrest, Giro, 32boots and Rossignol. Spotting him can be interesting since he'll go anywhere on Hood depending on the conditions for the day. Skibowl is one of his favorite spots though, but that's a local secret. His style is pretty much go big or go home per his own words, and he always tries to go as big as possible.
"Hood means a lot to me. I think that it is one of the coolest places to be in the summer. I love seeing all of the kids that come out here from all over the country. With no money or jobs or places to stay. All just for the chance to snowboard in the summer and help the overall progression of the sport. There isnt many other places in the world that can be done. I also love the fact that everyone in the community on Hood is super nice and willing to help one another. If you cant get a ride to the mountain you can just stick out your thumb and a fellow boarder or skiier will pick you up soon."
In the future Trent hopes to build up the Hillcrest team so that all of its members get recognized by the community as leaders of freestyle snowboarding on Hood. He aims to compete in some additional national level competitions like the Chevy Revolution Tour. Trent want expand the Hilcrest team to include younger kids, so that the rest of the team can help them progress by being mentors and role models to them. In the future he hopes of helping organize snowboard events to benefit cancer research, global warming ect.
